Joanna Chin on Creativity

There’s more to being creative than drawing

For Joanna Chin, the co-founder of health advertising agency  Langland, creativity equates to coming up with solutions to problems. Yet she isn’t convinced that traditional office layouts are always conducive to the creativity needed for companies to flourish.

Instead, when it comes to being able to come up with new ideas, she believes the act of moving to a different place can help inspire original thought.

She explains that, rather than “sitting in a row of desks like battery hens, you need to be able to vary your outlook. We encourage our teams to work together where possible. We’ve created workspaces where people can come together formally or just over a coffee.  Or just to get some quiet time and sit away from their desk.”
