Business magazine Forbes and market research company Statista joined forces to discover the best US companies for female employees.
To carry out the research, 40,000 women in America were surveyed – all of whom worked for businesses with at least 1,000 employees – to find out which had the best prospects for their female workforce.
The top 10 included Harvard University (10), Unilever (6) and Hallmark Cards (4), but climbing 21 places from last year to make the 2019 number 1 spot was The Estée Lauder Companies. So how did they win?
One aspect is the high proportion of female staff – 84% of its workforce, 53% of its vice president-and-above executives and 43% of its board of directors are women.
Parental benefits are also notably better than average in the US, including 20 weeks of paid parental leave, six weeks of flexible hours for the back-to-work transition, $10,000 for adoption assistance and $20,000 a year for fertility treatments.
Ensuring staff have the option to extend their career paths across different brands, regions and functions is a focal point, while the company’s reverse-mentoring scheme was also applauded.
