On 3 July 2019 the UK’s Minister for Women & Equalities, Penny Mordaunt, unveiled a new report - ‘Gender equality at all stages: A roadmap for change’.
The report sets out plans to financially empower women, with key measures including: reviewing the online gender pay gap reporting service to determine what additional information employers should release; considering further steps on redundancy protection and pregnancy and maternity discrimination; examining older women’s financial stability – including the impact of recent private pensions reforms – and working with employers to overcome gender disparities in apprenticeships.
A refreshed Women’s Business Council was also launched as part of the initiative, tasked with the remit of tackling individual sectors to ensure they are closing their gender pay gaps, and ensuring female staff have the same opportunities as their male counterparts.
The new chair of the WBC, Fiona Dawson, the Global President of Mars Food, Multisales and Global Customers said, ‘The plan announced by the government today gives us a fantastic opportunity to renew the fight for women’s equality, and it will be my immediate priority to ensure that our partners are doing everything in their power to help women progress in the workplace.’
