About this package

The way we think about ourselves and our abilities shapes our lives and our careers. This package introduces a range of fascinating ideas to help develop greater self-awareness and an understanding of our workplace behaviours.

It’s a great opportunity to provide your team with new ways to power up their thinking and become their own greatest asset in life and in work. The Self-discovery package contains four classes and one workbook. Let’s get started and look at those more closely…

Your classes

CLASS 1

Are you a warrior, magician or queen?

Archetypes are recognisable characters from stories. They are everywhere: heroes, villains, victims, kings, princesses and wizards. Whether we are aware of them or not, archetypes help us make sense of the world and of ourselves. In this class, we will have some fun with the idea of archetypes and you will have a chance to think about which ones are alive in your story about yourself and how they might help you grow and evolve as a person and a leader.

CLASS 2

Self-awareness:
what's it like to work with me?

Are you a great colleague? It’s likely to be a question you don’t ask yourself all that much, but it’s vital that we all consider the role we play in our relationships at work, and the part we play in how successful those relationships are. In this class, we’ll look at how you can raise your self-awareness, so that you can consider what you are like to work with from a range of others’ perspectives. You’ll leave armed with tons of practical tools for being a great colleague, and to collaborate more effectively with all sorts of different types of people.

CLASS 3

Change makers:
are you just weird enough?

When we are trying to make change happen in an organisation, it can be useful to pay attention to how ‘weird’ we are coming across to our colleagues. In the 1970s, Jonno Hannafin came up with the concept of The Perceived Weirdness Index. The essence of the idea is that if we are too different (too weird) to the culture we are trying to change then it’s likely we will be rejected, but we have to be weird enough to challenge the status quo. If you are trying to lead change in your organisation or community, there is a line to tread between being so radical that you get spat out, and blending into the norm so much that you don’t make anything happen. How do successful change-makers walk that line?

CLASS 4

The drama triangle

The drama triangle (created by Stephen Karpman) is a well-known psychological model. It describes how people can fall into unhelpful patterns of behaviour both in teams and in families. Still widely used today in the world of leadership and team development, the drama triangle is a powerful tool to help us be aware of the roles we play at home and at work. In this class, we will explore how drama builds up when people fall out in groups. We will explore how teams end up picking sides, gossiping and feeling caught up in the politics. We will look at our individual patterns, asking how we may be contributing to team politics, and what we can do to navigate tricky team dynamics.

The happy success

For a lot of women, success can feel like compromise — that in order to be successful, something has to give. When we’re in this mindset, work-life balance can take a backseat. Are you so busy making sure everyone and everything else is ok that your needs inevitably come second, if not even further down the list? In this workbook, we will redefine what success means for you personally and discover the truth about work-life balance and how to realistically achieve it.
