Retail is a constantly evolving industry. Amidst a landscape focused on regulatory change, a high street in transition, multi-channel delivery, the need to deliver a seamless, stand-out customer experience remains paramount to gain competitive advantage. The Awards will increase awareness of the diverse range of opportunities for women in retail, by shining the spotlight on role models and inspiring more women to consider a career in retail.

The retail industry currently employs over 3 million people and research shows 60% of people employed by the retail industry are women. 85% of all retail purchases are made or influenced by women. Yet only 20% of executive teams, and just 10% of executive boards are women. A significant gender pay gap in the retail sector has also been recognised, with the average male manager earning 26.8% more than his female colleagues.

Change will not happen unless we come together, recognise more needs to be done and take effective action. These awards will celebrate women leading the way as leaders, influencers and innovators.



The Barclaycard everywoman in Retail Awards are for those who possess the qualities, attitude, hard work ethic and commitment to supporting other women that makes them a credit to the industry and the organisations they work for. They are the talented women who have exceeded expectations as well as inspired success in others. Past winners have come from all over the retail industry, from start-ups to global retailers and from the shop floor to the boardroom. The Awards programme is open to individuals at all stages of their career.



Entrepreneur Award, Sponsored by Amazon - Awarded to an owner or founder of a retail business that has been operating for 12 months or more, whose vision will inspire other women to start their own enterprise

Above & Beyond Award - Awarded to a woman at any stage of her career that has truly gone above and beyond her role to help drive the organisation's success.

Leader Award – Awarded to a woman whose significant contribution to the strategic and/or commercial direction of the business has increased productivity, innovation or employee engagement.

Male Mentor Award, Sponsored by Specsavers - Awarded to a man for his active commitment to advancing or championing the career progression of women in retail through mentorship.

Rising Star Award, Sponsored by Tesco –Awarded to a woman aged under 30 who is excelling in her retail career, making a valuable contribution to her organisation.

Customer Experience Award – Awarded to a woman who has been instrumental in improving or transforming the customer experience.



Supported by the most forward-thinking brands committed to celebrating the skills, innovation and leadership of women in retail, the Awards champion and celebrate women who are achieving career success and the companies that are supporting them to do so.

Woman of the Year

Niamh Sterling, CEO - Recipe Guru, Dublin. With Recipe Guru, Niamh takes traditional cookbooks and turns them into revenue generating, bite-size digital content delivering access to new audiences and increasing basket value. By solving the problem of sourcing celebrity chef influencers & white label recipe content at scale, Recipe Guru allows retailers to deliver personalised and relevant online experiences like never before.


Above & Beyond Award

Zuzana Starjakova, Team Manager - Ocado, Luton. After spotting gaps in Ocado’s “Return to Work” policy, she was inspired to create a brand-new policy supporting women returning from maternity leave. She also personally mentored several Personal Shoppers into senior managerial roles and her stellar management has led to the current impressive 99.5% customer satisfaction rate.

These programmes have now been adopted across the whole Argos estate.

Claudia Lambeth, Founder & CEO - Luna Mae, London. At the age of just 22, she founded a bespoke lingerie service specialising in fitting excellence. After successfully pitching her idea to 14 Angel Investors, she secured the funds to launch her products in Fortnum and Mason. She now has a flagship store in Belgravia with an in-house atelier of exceptional British seamstresses, and a loyal client base of 85% repeat customers from as far away as New Zealand.

Executive Leader Award

Tina Mitchell, Divisional Managing Director - Co-op, Manchester. Her phenomenal work extends to managing Co-op’s “Aspire Women’s Network”, which ensures more women are represented at senior levels.

Rachel Beattie, Co-founder / Director - Careaux, Manchester. By combining her mathematical background and love of fashion, she designs classic dresses with different sized tops and bottoms, to suit the wearer’s body shape. Rachel now promotes mathematics through STEM clubs and workshops, using the iconic dress design to show how seamlessly STEM skills can fuse with fashion.

At just 19 years old, she progressed from Sales Associate to Floor Manager, and her customer-focused leadership supported the Lewisham Outlet store in achieving a significant increase in sales. Once she became accountable for The Health and Safety Audit, it achieved a 100% compliance score, without a single fail.
