Charlotte Lach was appointed International Casualty Business Leader at AIG in July 2018. She had previously served as Chief of Staff AIG Europe.

Charlotte joined AIG in 2011 as an Underwriter within the Liabilities team, where she primarily focused on Energy and Construction risks and represented AIG in Lloyds of London. Charlotte completed the Advanced Diploma in Insurance (ACII) in 2014, receiving the Crawford Prize for achieving the best overall academic performance that year.

Charlotte was awarded Young Achiever of the Year at the British Insurance Awards in 2015; named among ‘30 Ones to Watch’ in Brummell Magazine and recognised as a ‘Rising Star in Insurance’ by We Are The City in June 2016.

Top tips

  • Focus on your job role first and getting it right, before broadening out to other things.
  • Be open to opportunities. Don’t be narrow-minded when considering next steps.
  • Things will not go to plan, but it’s how you react to and deal with them that counts.
  • You don’t need to be in a leadership role to lead.
  • Own your own style of leading – trying to emulate someone else’s style rarely works. There are many different ways to lead and authenticity is key.

You can have a goal, but you need to accept that there might be more than one way to get there. Listen to advice, but create the path that’s right for you.
