The total number of jobs in the UK logistics sector is projected to grow by 95,000 between 2010 and 2020, with a replacement demand of 553,000*. This demand will not be met if only half the population would consider a career in it. Too many women have a preconceived idea of what the industry could offer, or see the sector as off-limits.
The FTA everywoman in Transport and Logistics Awards, championed by many of the industry’s leading employers including Asda, DHL and TNT seek to reverse this notion. The Award categories were expanded in 2013 and they now encompass both passenger and commercial transport.
On the morning of the 2013 Awards Ceremony everywoman held a Roundtable debate with senior leaders on practical initiatives to attract and retain female talent.
The Freight Transport Association (FTA) and everywoman have also collaborated on an industry wide programme – The FTA everywoman Accelerate Programme which supports all operators in their desire to welcome a wider talent pool into the industry and support women into senior positions.
