Starting My Research
When I came off the phone today at 16:20, I was buzzing. In fact, I was on a high when I finished a phone call at 11:45 today. So what had I been doing? I had been interviewing two successful entrepreneurs for my book. Judith Morgan [founder of The Money Gym, Lunch with Judith and Caribbean Property Investments] and Sharon Gaskin [founder of the Trainers Trainer Company]. Yes, it may have been two small steps along the way to becoming a published author – but it represented a major milestone on my journey.
I’ll let you into a small secret. Since March of this year I’ve been trying to start research for a book. Until the last few months I lacked the inner drive and conviction to even start approaching people to be interviewed. I had been planning to interview small business owners in my local area for a book on ‘how to achieve more in troubled economic times’. I didn’t get further than writing a draft of a letter asking for an interview – something was holding me back. Two of my business coaches had failed to motivate me to start my research. In my first two interviews it has emerged that successful entrepreneurs need to have an inner drive and determination. All great entrepreneurs have something to prove to someone – perhaps a school teacher, parent, friend or even themselves. By raising the stakes and writing these articles for everywoman, it appears that I have found my inner drive and determination to write my book.
So, what decisions have I taken recently?
